Ancient Traditions from the Hebrew Scriptures, Part 2

In this 4-part series, Dr. Noreen Jacks presents the history and commitment of the ancient scribes, who meticulously copied the sacred Scriptures and preserved the pronunciation of the Hebrew language for future generations. These lectures discuss the history, purpose and symbolism of the mezuzah, teffillin (phylacteries in Greek), and the annual feast of Purim.

Session 2: Mezuzah - Divine Blessing on Every Home

In this session, Dr. Jacks introduces us to the mezuzah, a parchment inscribed with religious texts, which is enclosed in a small case that is attached to the doorpost of a Jewish house as a sign of faithful obedience to the Law. It signifies the entrance into a home whose participants are committed to God. There are many traditions associated with the mezuzah that offer significant spiritual meaning for Christians.
