Declaring the Glory of God

Written by Elizabeth Avallone. Posted in

You are invited to share a special heavenly treat experienced only from North America. On Monday, August 21, 2017 there will be a total solar eclipse. To refresh your memory, a solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between earth and the sun. The moon can totally or partly obscure the image of the Sun. On this day we will see a total solar eclipse when the moon blocks all of the sun's direct sunlight, turning day into darkness for a short time. Totality (when the “sun is turned into darkness”) occurs in a narrow path across the United States, with the partial solar eclipse visible over most of the U.S. and Canada. NASA calls it an “awe inspiring sight”, attributing the event to 'nature'. But we know better! “The heavens declare the glory of GOD”.

The timing of this eclipse is interesting. It happens 33 days before we see the Virgo sign of Rev. 12:1-2, “the woman clothed with the sun ...”. In Hebrew, thirty-three is spelled 'lamed-gimel'. Lamed is associated with authority and the gimel is associated with giving out/ lifting up. So lamed-gimel (33) could mean lifting up authority, i.e., establishing a sign. This eclipse enters the U.S. through the state of Oregon, which happens to be the 33rd state to enter the union.

Here are some biblical examples of the number 33 associated with a sign. The 33rd time we see 'Noah' in the Bible is in Gen. 9:17. This verse tell us that the rainbow will be a sign of the covenant God established between Himself and all flesh. The 33rd time Abraham's name is mentioned (Gen. 20:18) is in the account of the curse of infertility placed on Abimelech's household because he had taken Sarah into his harem. This complete infertility was a sign that God's promise would be fulfilled not by Abimelech's seed but by Abraham's. In Gen. 28:20-22, we find the 33rd mention of Jacob's name. This is where Jacob made a deal with God that if God took care of him and brought him back home safely, he would submit to Him. Jacob set up and anointed a stone as a witness of his promise. The stone was the sign of the promise.

Here are two examples from the N.T. The 33rd time we find 'Peter' is in Acts 10:18. This is the story about the vision Peter had of the sheet filled with unclean animals. He did not understand the vision until the delegation came from Caesarea requesting his visit. So the vision he had was the sign convincing him that he should go to Caesarea. The 33rd time we see 'Paul' is in Acts 17:2. “And according to Paul’s custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures ...”. Paul used the Hebrew scriptures to explain that Jesus is the Messiah. The Hebrew scriptures do not state explicitly that Messiah would come twice and that His first work was a 'death' work and that His second work would be a 'life' work. All this information was given with signs and types.

I have established my case that perhaps the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse over America is a sign pointing to September 23, 2017, when we will see the Virgo constellation, “a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; and she was with child; and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth.” (Rev. 12:1-2) Perhaps the rest of Chapter 12 is relevant also.

It has been 99 years since the last total solar eclipse crossed America. Abraham was 99 years old when God established the unilateral covenant with him and his descendants; circumcision was the sign for that covenant. These are interesting observations that I hope prompt you to further study.
